  • Evolution of Perception: The power of perception is strong. For example, I sometimes wonder about the changing perception of the body image over time. At one time being voluptuous was considered sexy; at another time that same body shape was fat. At one time being stick thin was in; at another time the same was anorexic. At one time being healthy was wholesome; at another time the same was pleasantly plump, a euphemism for fat and so on and so forth.

Thus continues the perennial quest of society to loose/gain (mostly loose in our current society,) the pounds, the kilograms and the stones

And why? To conform to a body image evolving over a period of time.

Venus of Willendorf, the Paleolithic statuette dating back to pre-historic time about 25,000 BCE is possibly the most expressive figurine of a woman’s body. A supreme symbol of fertility and womanly warmth with full fleshly breasts, birthing hips and the softest stomach inviting enough to rest the weary head and doze off to a deep slumber filled with spongy marshmallow dreams. She is soft, round and comforting.

Fast forward, to circa now-Allen Jones channeling Kate Moss in a hyper-sexualized mannequin with jutting breasts shaming the peaks of Mont Blanc, taut stomach and hips as if shaped under the masterful hands of a titanium ironsmith. She is hard, angled and definitely “comforting” is not the word that comes to mind!

What has changed? Nothing. Just our perception over time. Rest is a constant and will remain so.
